A Register of Emerging Physical Technologies
curviocheerdck.com maintains a numbered, referenced survey of three research programmes whose outcomes are expected to shape the second half of the century: fault-tolerant quantum computation and communication, net-gain fusion energy, and the identification of dark matter.
Contents
The register
Five sections, each opening with a statement of scope and methodology and closing with a numbered list of references. Sections are ordered from the laboratory scale of the qubit to the cosmological scale of the dark-matter halo.
-
Section I: Quantum Computing Hardware Platforms
Superconducting, trapped-ion, neutral-atom and photonic processors are compared on qubit count, two-qubit gate fidelity, coherence time and demonstrated error-correction performance.

Section II: Quantum Communication and Post-Quantum Cryptography
Quantum key distribution over fibre and satellite links is set against the lattice-based standards published by NIST in 2024, with attention to cost, range and threat model.
Read section → -
Section III: Magnetic Confinement Fusion
ITER, SPARC, JET, JT-60SA and the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator are examined by magnetic field strength, machine size, projected gain, schedule and cost.
Read section → -
Section IV: Inertial Confinement and Alternative Fusion Concepts
The National Ignition Facility's target-gain results are placed alongside private laser, magneto-inertial, field-reversed and Z-pinch programmes and their stated timelines.
Read section → -
Section V: Dark Matter: Evidence and Detection Strategies
Cosmological and astrophysical evidence is summarised before direct, axion, indirect and collider searches are compared by mass range, exposure and exclusion limits.

Editorial method
The register admits a technology when three conditions are met: a peer-reviewed or laboratory-reported result exists that can be independently checked; the result bears on a quantitative threshold recognised within the field (a fault-tolerance threshold, a Lawson criterion, a cross-section exclusion); and at least two institutions pursue the approach. Programmes that meet only the first condition are noted in prose but not tabulated.
Figures are taken from the original publication rather than from secondary coverage. Where a laboratory press release precedes the journal article, the release is cited and the entry is flagged for revision. Commercial pricing is quoted from published rate cards with the date of access. Roadmap dates issued by companies or consortia are reported as stated and are not adjusted by the editors.
Each section ends with a References list. Superscript markers in the body link to the corresponding entry, and each entry links back to the point of citation, so that the chain from claim to source can be traversed in either direction.
